PET ME
‘PET ME’ showcases the psychological and physical bond between human and animal that has evolved into owner and pet throughout history. With humans taking matters into their own hands to speed up domesticating more and more animals, the lines being to blur about what can be considered a “pet.” Is it how the creature behaves, looks or what’s in its DNA? What is clear is human’s desire for companionship and that over time certain animals have developed a nurturing habit of relying on humans.
By using up-close abstraction imagery and documentation of alliances with animals and humans, the pieces show the details and structure of modern pet culture. Cards provided for the audience show statistics about how people feel about their pets and spend money on them. The video also shows information on the kinds of people that own pets and the benefits to owning pets. It’s in our DNA to find companionship with animals. We need them and they need us.
